SukonmiSkunk put together this little tutorial to show how the seeding process goes... so here we go....
Day
1
just fill a glass with water and float how ever many seeds you wish
to crack... I will be using these to make a fresh batch of seeds so I
am planting out a few to see the consistancy and to chose some strong
females to grow and seed and a strong male for some pollin for the
seeding.... here you can see the seeds floating on top of the water.. just plain water...

Day 3
The seeds have cracked.. well they cracked at the
second day but there were a few stubborn ones so I gave them an extra
day .

Day 5
ok these have been in the water for 5 days and are
ready to be planted... its important to be careful not to sink them
through this process as they will go rotten.. just don't poke them and
they will be fine...

ok now we are ready for planting... heres how to make a simple seedling mix..
Ive
got some wormcasting here, from my worm farm.. if you done have one get
one. also some saw dust collected from my chainsaw.. its stringy bark
and red gum.. and some perlite. Sieve the wormcastings to get the lumps and rock out... 1 scoop wormcastings, 2 scoops perlite and 2 scoops sawdust...

Ok just give it a good mix up then add a little water... not too
much.. just enough to wet it.. not to soak it...then mix well to be
sure everything is blended properly. one thing with this mix.. is you
could add horticultural sand if you have it.. just make the quantities
equal... ya want about 25% wormcastings.. this mix gives me %20.. so
its still pretty right...the mix I got from Gardening Australia...

Ive got one of these little window boxes.. they are great and will
fit about 50 seeds... here Ive just placed some nylon insul on the
bottom.. this will help stop the wormcastings from draining through too
easily and help keep it moist... these will be going straight under the
400 watter...
fill to about an inch below the top with the seedling mix and just create a couple of trenches for the seeds to sit in....

Ok just carefully tip the seeds out on some paper towel.. I will only
plant the strong ones... so let the first cull begin... here you can
see them tipped out and then the ones that didn't make it...

Picking the best ones... just lay them side by side about 15-20mm
apart... have the taproot facing like this so they dont grow into each
other... will make it easier to repot them after... then just back
fill(cover) with a little more of the mix and level out... have the
seeds about 20-25mm below the soil... then give it a good watering...
and then let drain... before you place it under the 400watter...
yes
the 400 no piss ant flouros... they give a weak stalk... the 400 is the
go thats for sure... just have it about 2 foot from the top... it
doesn't have to be right up close at this stage...
O
Ok, they have been under the 400 for 4 days now.. and have pretty much all cracked the soil and going strong..
day 14... day 9 in the soil... these are cranking... ive been
watering these once a day.. which seems to be plenty...on half strength
veg nutes... at about 800-1000ppm
Day 19 from the start... 2 weeks under the 400... these are
cranking nice and chunky.. ready to repot.. you dont want them too much
bigger... time to give them thier own space... also time for the second
culling... ok I planted 48 seedlings... now its time to sull them down
to 24.. that fits nicely in the foam tubs I use.. I can fit more.. but
really I just want the strong ones... so out with the weak...
ok heres some pics at 2 weeks...

2 weeks under the 400 these are ready to pot out... out of all
these seeds these is absolutely no variation... just some havent grown
as well as others.. but the leaf structure is all the same through
out... make this process so much easier.. the consistancy is good from
48 seedlings I would say this strain is pure...
Just carefully dig them out with a fork... just knock all the dirt
off... no need to wash them.. if they were going in to a system then I
guess I would wash them.. but these will be hand watered over the next
week until I decide to sex them...

Here Ive set up a couple of foam tubs.. pretty simple, the top one has
drainage holes and then I ve just filled with perlite... and straight
back under the 400.. this time I ve raised the seedlings up to get them
a little closer to the light... from now on I will be feeding them full
strength nutes.. starting at 1500ppm.. then raising it upto
1800ppm...over the coming weeks...

seedlings are at 28 days now... I think maybe at the repotting stage it
would be a good idea to mix the perlite with a bit of rock wool... I am
hand feeding these 4 times a day and it doesnt seem to be enough??
so
I am guessing straight perlite isnt the go and mixing it 50/50 with
rockwool.. thegranulated shit would be perfect ... would have been
easier... especially for the watering...
oh.. that burning on
the leaves is from nute spillage... not a real good idea... those
leaves will be cut of any way.. but try and avoid it...
Day 39 now...these are
ready for sexing... pretty simple just switch the timer to 12/12 and
start watering with full strength(1800ppm) flowering nutrients. This
method is the best way Ive found for sexing and is the most accurate,
they will sex themselves at about 6-8 weeks but this way forces them
into flower...
Ive had these on 12/12 for the last 3 days...
and feeding flower nutes at 1800ppm... some are starting to show
definate signs of sex... others are a little slow... its the vigorous
plants I want.. so I will give them another 2 days.. and what hasnt
shown definate signs will be culled... this ensures what ever I seed
will have strong genes...
well heres a few pics.... check out
the leaf growing inside the leaf.. trippy hey... theres a few like
that... also this clone here has self tipped, you can see how its split
and has 2 main crowns...

another week on.. these have been sexing for a week now... most have
shown sex.. and Ive picked out the male and female I will cross... both
are very stocky looking plants and looks like they will produce well...
here
you can see them at day 47... also a couple of pics showing the female
sex.. and one showing the male ball.... I will leave them a few more
days just so they show definate signs .... and hopefully I can get
better pics...
they are ready now to prune back and regrow.. but another few days wont hurt.. and i've got 4 weeks up my sleeve...

well the seedlings have definately finished showing thier sex... heres a few pics...
a couple of shots of the male... here you can see the ball sacks... all male...
heres a pick of a gender confused plant.. IE its... ITS showing both
genders at the sexing sites this plant has fibres on one opposite
sides.. I had a couple more that you couldnt really see properly... one
had fibres on one side and balls the other.. and also I had one that
showed, three sites had fibres and only one site had balls... iether
way they are all hermies.. so the bin for them...

and heres a pic of the female, you can see all sexing sites have fibres
coming out of it... this is a very simple way to make definately sure
the sex of the plants before you start growing them... all up these
plants are 50 days old... from the day the seeds were planted they have
been on 12/12 for 11 days... but as you can see 7 days is usually about
enough to get them to sex...
ok out of 48 seedlings..culled to 24 seedlings I have 10 pure females 6
males .. and the rest are just confused.. theres a few that havent
shown sex at all yet so theyre out too...
the 1st pic is of the females.. the 2nd is the males.. the 3rd the gender confused.. and all together
now
to pick a choice male and female to cross.. and ditch the rest... not
the females, I will prune them back and grow them out...

now the breeding pair... 1st pic is the female, the 2nd is the male and both together... these will be for seeds...

now to prune them back and put them back onto 18/6... ive left between
6-8 branches on each.. so its quite a severe pruning.. these could most
probably be cloned... I am not going to bother...
heres a couple of pics of one pruned back and then all together... back under the light...

ok an update on the seedlings ... theyve been back on 18/6.. at this
tage its day 60.. or 8 weeks.. these are ready to be pruned back
again...
Ive
got a couple of weeks to veg these so I will prune them right back
close to the main stem... this will give me at least 12 main
branches... here you can see the before and after pruning pics...
